Sightbox Helps Johnson & Johnson See The Value In Portland

Travis Rush has been wearing contacts since he was eight. His 74-year-old father, a southern Oregon optometrist, still sees patients one day a week, and his eye doctor sister runs two practices herself. It’s no surprise that Travis would join the eye care business as well, with a company of his own: Sightbox, a service which marries an annual eye exam with mail-order contact lenses.

The surprise, even to Rush, is how quickly he went from founding his Portland-based startup to selling it last month to global health giant Johnson & Johnson Vision Care. “I didn’t expect it to happen this quickly,” he said. "But the cohesiveness of our two organizations was too perfect to ignore."
