Tickets are on sale now for the Sept. 13 event
PORTLAND, OREGON – Greater Portland Inc (GPI) is pleased to announce that tickets are now on sale for the 2018 Annual Economic Summit, which convenes nationally and regionally respected thought leaders for key conversations about what makes us successful as a region and where we can improve.

GPI’s signature event, presented by Bank of America, celebrates GPI’s role as the region’s premier public-private partnership and shines a spotlight on our region’s competitiveness in a global economy.

Longtime GPI partner Bank of America is reprising its role as presenting sponsor, exemplifying the bank’s commitment to investing in our region.

“Bank of America is proud to return as the Presenting Sponsor of Greater Portland Inc’s Economic Summit,” said Roger Hinshaw, Bank of America’s Market President for Oregon and Southwest Washington, and a GPI board director. “Bank of America’s commitment to the local economy, our community, and our clients has never been stronger, which is why we view it as strategic and important to support this economic development event. The learnings, dialogue and actions that come out of it are good for our region.”

This year, the Summit highlights our region’s most valuable resource – our people. Led by conversations from nationally recognized experts, we’ll explore how investing in our entrepreneurs, educators, businesses and communities can drive returns to our region’s advancing economy.

Keynote speaker Elaine Waxman, a senior fellow at the Washington, D.C.-based Urban Institute’s Income and Benefits Policy Center, will share her research findings on improving access to upward mobility for all workers.

Waxman co-authored a brief on the future of work with the U.S. Partnership on Mobility from Poverty, in which she and her co-authors identified six concrete ways that philanthropic groups and government agencies can ensure that all American workers have economic security.

“I am delighted to join the conversation in Portland about the rapidly evolving future of work and the challenges and opportunities for achieving shared prosperity in the 21st century,” Waxman said. “We’ll examine the vision for an inclusive economy recently outlined by the U.S. Partnership on Mobility from Poverty and reflect on what it could mean for Greater Portland.”

The event will also feature a panel of experts, including Mark Mitsui, President of Portland Community College and the former Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education for the U.S. Department of Education; and Astrid Scholz, CEO of Sphaera and a founder of XXcelerate Fund, which supports high-performing women entrepreneurs.

The Summit is a key moment in the year that allows the region’s brightest and most influential leaders to come together to imagine a future driven by every person in our community.

“As regions around the world look to define and promote the assets that will make them world-class, people are and will be the differentiator in a market’s success,” said Janet LaBar, Greater Portland Inc’s president and CEO. “When we invest in people, we increase economic mobility, productivity and innovation. At our Economic Summit, we’ll explore the role of education, philanthropy, business and government in ensuring talent is positioned to thrive, clearing a path to greater regional prosperity.”

In addition to Presenting Sponsor Bank of America, GPI would like to thank all the generous event sponsors, including PGE, The Standard, JPMorgan Chase, Oregon State University, Port of Vancouver, Spirit Media and The Boeing Company.
