Greater Portland continues to attract educated millennials in droves

Greater Portland continues to attract educated young adults at one of the highest rates in nation, a new analysis from The Brookings Institution shows. Since the recession, our region has seen an average of 7,200+ net new young adults each year. Now, more than 40 percent of our 25-34 year-olds are college graduates.

From the analysis:

Migration magnets for young adults are often havens for educated millennials

"Despite slowed migration rates, young adults still comprise a substantial number of movers as members of the large millennial generation have filled their ranks. This raises the question: Which places are attracting the most young adults?

Seven metropolitan areas, Houston; Denver; Dallas; Seattle; Austin, Texas; Charlotte, N.C.; and Portland, Ore. exhibited annual net migration gains for young adults that exceeded 7,000. In four of the seven (Denver, Seattle, Austin, and Portland), college graduates comprised more than two-fifths of their older millennial populations."
