Genentech expands in Oregon

October 16,2018 | By Anna Marum

Genentech expands in Oregon
The new Portland office space is expected to employ 300.

Greater Portland Inc, Business Oregon and Prosper Portland are pleased to welcome Genentech’s continued growth in the Greater Portland region as the company announces its new location in Portland for its Access Solutions team members.

“Genentech’s choice of Oregon for this expansion reflects Oregon’s talented workforce, our competitive business climate, and our ability to work in partnership with the business community,” said Oregon Governor Kate Brown. “We’ve been working closely with Genentech since its first facility opened here. It is a shining example of my long-term approach to business development. We don’t just bring companies here and walk away, we are partners for the long haul to build a talented workforce and prosperous communities. We are proud to have this company invest in Oregon and help bring jobs to our state.”

Hillsboro is currently home to Genentech’s Hillsboro Technical Operations facility, a state-of-the-art fill/finish facility and a warehouse and distribution center that just celebrated its 10-year anniversary.

The Genentech Access Solutions team plays an important role in helping people get the Genentech medicines they are prescribed. Access Solutions specialists are dedicated to helping patients understand their insurance, providing copay assistance or support when a payer denies coverage, as well as providing free medicines to people who meet certain financial criteria. They will be closely integrated with the existing team at Genentech’s South San Francisco headquarters.

The new office space will be located in Portland’s rapidly evolving Lloyd District, and is expected to employ 300. Read more about the project here.

“I’m very pleased to welcome a company that’s committed to hiring a diverse workforce, building new career pathways,” said Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler. “I look forward to partnering with Genentech in our ongoing efforts to build an equitable economy.”

Business Oregon is using its Business Expansion Program with Genentech, accessible to companies meeting certain wage and job creation requirements who seek to begin or expand operations within the state.

Business Oregon, Greater Portland Inc and Prosper Portland have been working together on the project with Genentech as the company explored different options to open a new office in Portland.

“Genentech’s decision to double down on its investment in Greater Portland and add a new location in Portland is proof our region is an ideal growth market for global firms,” said Janet LaBar, president and CEO of Greater Portland Inc. “A competitive cost of doing business and livability attracts the world’s industry leaders, and we’re thrilled to welcome Genentech’s growth and employees to our region.”

Our region has long proven an advantageous expansion location for California companies looking to move or open a second office. Genentech is joining California companies Coinbase, Expensify, Salesforce, Airbnb, SurveyMonkey, Autodesk, Jive, Aruba Networks, Mercari, New Relic, Intel, Apple, Yahoo, Google and eBay in making a significant investment in our region.
