Delegation learns valuable lessons on resiliency and recovery on Japan visit
Six years after the deadly earthquake and tsunami that devastated coastal communities in Japan, there remain valuable lessons to be learned about the event called '3/11.'
Clatsop County Emergency Manager Tiffany Brown was one of about 50 people who joined Greater Portland Inc on a Community Resilience in Japan Study Mission to observe firsthand how public agencies and citizens have recovered from the March 2011 disaster, and prepared for future events.
Participants met with Japanese and American government and business representatives, visited disaster research centers, and toured some of the hardest-hit communities to learn about their strategies for rebuilding and guidance for communities facing similar hazards.
