Greater Portland Inc to honor Port of Portland’s Bill Wyatt with Uniting Regionally Award at Sept. 8 Annual Economic Summit

Portland, Ore. (August 19, 2016) — Greater Portland Inc has announced that Bill Wyatt, Executive Director of the Port of Portland, will be honored with the 2016 Uniting Regionally Award at GPI’s Sept. 8 Annual Economic Summit at Portland Art Museum.
The award is presented each year to an individual, organization or collective that actively demonstrates the values of regionalism by working to grow prosperity for all throughout the Greater Portland region.
“The selection committee was unanimous in recognizing Bill Wyatt for his leadership on projects and initiatives that have dotted the region and will positively impact residents, communities and businesses for years to come,” says Janet LaBar, GPI president and CEO. “Our organization could not be more pleased to honor a regional champion who radiates such an intentional focus on making our economy better.”
Wyatt has led the Port of Portland since October 2001, and enriched the region with a diverse career in public service, sitting on a range of local and state boards and acting as a global ambassador to the Portland and Vancouver regions. He leads more than 700 employees and annual operating revenues of approximately $240 million.
The Uniting Regionally Award will be presented to Bill Wyatt by Greg Ness, chairman, president and CEO of The Standard, the award sponsor.
Greater Portland Inc’s Annual Economic Summit celebrates the region’s competitiveness in a global economy and brings together more than 500 regional leaders. The 2016 event features speakers and a panel of experts including Nat Parker, CEO of moovel North America, Jennifer Bradley, director, Center for Urban Innovation at the Aspen Institute and Janet LaBar, president and CEO of Greater Portland Inc discussing how diverse industries are impacted by technology and innovation.
Kian Gohar, founding executive director of the Innovation Partnership Program, is this year’s keynote speaker. Gohar will address the growth of exponential technology, its implications for society and how Greater Portland can harness technology to augment regional competitiveness.
